open or closed.....the dilemna internal....
Those of you who know me,or have seen my collection pics will know im no MoC collector, i love to get those lil plastic bastards outta their boxes/off their cards...and get some action figure tomfoolery on the go. As a result of this carefree attitude to toys,i always tend to buy loose, but this has given rise to a somewhat unusual problem..when i do buy on-card figures i just cant open the bloody things DAMMIT!!!
So far i have MoC: MU Skaar MU Scarlet Spider Spider-man Scorpion And worst of all: A Joyride studios Halo 2 5pack i bought because i was desperate for Joe scale Grunts THAT IV HAD SINCE OCTOBER AND STILL NOT OPENED BECAUSE I JUST CANT DO IT!!! So firstly i need advice, and secondly do any of you have similar toy related brain mis-fires?? |
My advice to you would be to open all of your toys as soon as you get them, that way you won't have to worry about it anymore.
My problem is I compulsively buy toys I obsess over and afterwards completely regret it. I'll buy up an entire toy line, open them all, then sell them a year later. |
If you were referencing the really hard to find figures, I'd completely understand, but Skaar and Scarlet Spider are still coming out in revision packs and are fairly common. You should be able to get two for cheap and open the second...
Scorpion, I understand, is a bit harder to find, but not completely impossible. Maybe this isn't the feedback you're looking for. If not, sorry. As a MOC collector who sometimes opens figures to ship to people cheaper, I'm almost on the other end of the spectrum. I only open stuff if someone pays for it and asks for that, which more than fills my need to open stuff. PS, I might still have both of those guys to open and send to you on my BST! ;) |
open them. open ALL the toys.

Thanks for the replies chaps!!

With MU and other 3.75" figures it becomes a tough choice for me as well. I end up opening them for storage purposes is another matter, but in the beginning I like to keep them MOC for a couple of months.
With transformers I have no objection to opening them. I don't see the point of having a 'transformer' toy when you can't transform and play with it. Only items that I keep MIB and MOC are huge figures like MU Galactus, MU Sentinel, Ultimate Optimus Prime. I am sure I'll get around to opening those too at some point in the future. |
I like the tags on this thread.
I'd ask yourself why you're keeping them MOC. What's your plan for them.. Are you planning on selling them at some point? Or do you just like the way they look in package? Since you're not a MOC collector, those are the only two reasons I can think to keep them sealed. Personally, I don't think any of these toys are ever going to hold any value (turning a $20 profit after a few years isn't something I care about), but that's my view. I would understand if you like the in-package look though. Once every blue moon I will buy a double of what I consider a gem to keep on MOC, but those are few and far between... and only if I have one to open. |

Both honestly if you can afford to do so. Certain times they look better in the package than out.
I have a few items here and there that are MOC but majority are opened to be played with. For instance I have a MGS Collection # 2 Raiden MGS 4 Ver. that still sealed on card. Do I want to open it...you bet but, it honestly looks too nice in package that I couldn't bring myself to do so. So yeah I get your dilemma. Just open them if you know you want to play with or put on display. |
Open, baby!
I'm not looking to sell my collection or open a toy store, so I say, bust those bad boys outta jail! Not just that, but you cant really appreceate the sculpt or the backside of the fig while it's on the card. Just the other day, I considered the loving attention some sculptor out into the female buck's bootie- and I knew he was truly one of us. Here's to you, Mr. Sculptor of MU asses, Today's Real Man of Genius! |

I imagine the sculptor to be some hot, unjustly convicted woman working in a prison full of other hot female inmates....

Either way I usually open my figures except those rare or hard to find ones. The only MUs I haven't opened are the variant dr strange and a psylocke. Especially in my area it is hard to find figures. Store policy is you break, it you bought it. my policy is I break it, I probably will never find another! So to me it all depends on the rarity and the worth. |
