Anything that works well with Marvel Universe

I want to have a thread for items that will enhance the overall appeal and display factor of our beloved Marvel Universe figures. Now to give you an idea of what I mean, I'm talking about things like weapons, bases, playsets, vehicles, anything you can think of to aid in making the toy better. It could be a bike for Steve Rogers, a phoenix base from ML for MU phoenix figure. It could be a mecha suit from avatar for deadpool, whatever the case, take pics if you can, but mainly list the source, so other people can benifit and make their displays better. I know I have from watching other arkers on here.

I'll start it off, Bike from Mcfarlane's Movie line Akira, fits Cable very well

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/...n/DSC01220.jpg

Mecha suit from Avatar, refered to as the amp suit, fits all skinny figures, multiple man would be the best canidate or spiderman.

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/...n/DSC00815.jpg

small bit of dremel/drill work and ML blast effects can fit bleeding edge IM|
base is off MS IM.

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/...n/DSC00849.jpg

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/...n/DSC00850.jpg

Captain America jet can be repurposed into w/e you desire, avengers,dp,im,spidey,f4 it only seats 1 person but it's a great plane

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/...n/DSC00914.jpg

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/...n/DSC00916.jpg

that's all I got for pics, I'd like to see this thread be a great resource for all MU collectors, that may push some to open the package lol.

iLegends73 01-28-2012 03:03 AM

really gud idea. u can post websites too that sells weapons like marauders. or is that against the rules here?

Jason Abbadon 01-28-2012 03:13 AM

Heroclix!
Want an amazing Wasp and Ant Man in tiny MU scale, far better posed than the MU versions for a buck each? Heroclix.
http://www.hcrealms.com/units/av028.jpg

While buying them online (try Troll and Toad) get a bunch of Extremis Iron Mans- the clear boot jet effects on it can be cut off and used as MU boot jets, missile flame, etc.
http://pic90.picturetrail.com/VOL221.../400329778.jpg
You can buy a few Shaman Heroclix and cut the electricity effects off, glue them together and make some magic effects for Doctor Strange or Doom.
http://pic90.picturetrail.com/VOL221.../398600947.jpg

I'll second ML stands- the Johnny Storm flame stand rocks as a flight stand for him or Phionex. the Sentinel bases rock for posing X-Men on- the Sentinel head in particular is perfect MU scale.

Older Marvel toylines: Many larger characters like Strong guy, Satchsquatch and Warstar are MU scale will likely never be made in the MU line because of their size.
http://pic90.picturetrail.com/VOL221.../399067166.jpg
They're often cheap too- check Amazon before Ebay, as it's a great place for cheap toys with no bidding hassles.
The Fantasticar from the FF movie is AMAZING for MU scale- some Arker used it waaaay back in the MU Appreceation thread and I've wanted one every since!

1:18th scale Diecast cars are MU scale- often they go for as low as $20 on Amazon. If you want that street MU scene, nothing makes it like a car or two.

Dullcoat spray:
Dullcoat is used to seal a model kit or custom and takes that plastic "toy" shine off anything- if you want your fig or custom to look like it's wearing cloth, use this (I reccomend Testors' brand).
This are slightly modified Hydra figs after Dullcoat- see how the uniforms look like cloth? Compare them with my Doc Strange up there- he did not have a Dullcoat when I took that. Plastic looking, right?
http://pic90.picturetrail.com/VOL221.../398467707.jpg
It also seals weathering and custom decals in.

Star Wars/Gi Joe- obviously these are the places for crossover appeal, headswaps and better weapons than the same lame machine gun MU offers...but Rockstars Crysis figures are a trove of amazing gear. Always check other lines for custom potential- even suckfests like Pirates 3 has a great female figure that makes a perfect Dano Moonstar head.

flaccideagle 01-28-2012 06:09 AM

be careful with 1:18 cars, they will be great for background vehicles, but the figures, especially MU, probably won't fit. 1:16 is a little better if you want figures to fit inside, but they're mostly 80s model kits.

The A-Team movie van is great for a Punisher van.

Kotobukia's Model Support Goods line has their Mechanical Chain bases, which can be used as a "secret laboratory" or a space station, etc. I have a bunch I've been hoarding for an X-Men Danger Room display.

Famosa's Marvel Heroes line made a number of great playsets I've been desperately trying to find for several years now. They work perfectly with MU.

BTW if anyone has the Marvel Heroes Baxter Building and wants to sell it, PM me please! Been trying to find it for years and years now!

Optimus Vader 01-28-2012 07:23 AM

There's also some good tips in this thread: The Marvel Universe/3.75 Compatability Thread - Toy Discussion at Toyark.com

Maybe the mods can make one just for things to go with MU and the other to be for all 3.75" figs. haha

Naw man, no major rules, people can list sites for direct purchases of said items, or simply post a pic if you have the item/suggestion in question, anything can be listed here as long as it helps someone out. works for me atleast.

FancyPants 01-28-2012 12:45 PM

I love the doctor strange effects. I need me some of those

proteus 01-28-2012 04:26 PM

The flame is from some ML figure (I think!) and the blue electricity is cut off a Shaman Heroclic- I just super glued the three parts together at one end and stuck them into Doc;s hand with quakehold.

Quakehold: This is the shit if you dont want to use stands- your figs can stick to anything- you can even have Spidey on a wall.
It's non-toxic and peels right off a fig with no damage or residue.
Great for sticking effects onto things too!

Headswaps: Nothing takes the SHIELD soldier from "Meh" to "awesome!" like swapping that tiny pea head for a GI Joe or Star Wars head- and ESB Han Solo looks perfect as Starlord!
I know a lot of you dont do customs...but this is a cinch and really enhances a diorama.

Equipment Upgrades: Wanna make that AIM or hydra goon look great? Get an X-Acto and stick some of Cyclp's pouches on him. Or a GI Joe knife in sheath.
A lot of equipment on Joes and MU is NOT really molded on, but lightly glued on- stuff like the holstered gun on XMO Wolverine's chest. Stick the fig in hot water for ten minutes or so and use a butterknife (or dull x-acto) to pry the part off- it wont damage the donor figure (maybe paint) and it can be glued directly onto a new fig.
All my AIM guys have extra equipment on them- they're still obviously AIM guys, but now loaded for bear and unique.

Anything made from that hard rubberized plastic like cyclop's belt or the AIM bandolier can be easily cut up into an extra grenade for Winter Soldier or gear to upgrade a Hydra soldier.
The guns from MU, Joe and SW all can be cut apart and glued together into unique weapons too- all that stuff is super easy and fun to rebuild into new stuff- and since it's all black, it looks like it's supposed to be that way!

Have fun playing with this- but I warn you now: once you start, it's addictive!

bmorr 01-29-2012 06:42 AM

would the old 1980s MASK vehicles be too small for marvel figs?

also the maisto motorcycles work well.

they're way too small my friend.

If you want to go vintage, here is a great old website that has a TON of stuff (mostly) in scale to MU

Kevin Lentz's 3 3/4-inch Archives

Keep in mind, almost all of these are pretty darn expensive nowadays, and may not be your cup of tea as they may be undersized, as MU strays towards 4 inches, and the old-school aesthetic doesn't necessarily work for MU. A lot of that stuff would need some paint and elbow grease to be Marvel-ed out.

I've seen many folks do great customs on hisstank and other sites with this piece:

G.I. JOE THE RISE OF COBRA: PIT MOBILE HEADQUARTERS

The infamous GiJoe PIT vehicle/playset. Obviously all the GIJOE 25th-current stuff works great. But with a little work for those SHIELD-inclined it could be a cool base. I saw a custom one in the traditional SHIELD blue/white scheme when it came out in 2009... maybe another Arker has a link??

warmachine6 01-29-2012 09:13 AM

I agree if you mean, it lookds good for comparrison shots if you use larger scale figures mixed in with the MU scaled line. Build-a-figures such as Modok,Annihuls, Pitt, monkey man, Galactus,Mojo, sentinel etc, work well with MU figures. On top fo that regular scalled Marvel Legends sometimes work as well, in the example of sasquatch, he could be used to assemble Alpha Flight or be an army builder, often thought of painting some blue for frost giants. Blackheart, puck, and skrullls fit in perfectly with MU figures. Most ML figures are out of scale but that doesn't mean there base to stand on or weapons to hold are out of place on MU, a lot of the time they fit perfect.

bmorr 01-29-2012 12:01 PM

dont forget ML Yellowjacket.

proteus 01-29-2012 12:16 PM

Wait...wait..wait...theres a ML Puck figure???

cellardoor 01-29-2012 01:06 PM

Another good ML figure is The Watcher, he scales up very well with MU.

SH0CKWAVE 01-29-2012 01:09 PM

on a serious note, ML Super Hero Showdown figs can work well with the greatness that is MU.

Thor, Thing, Beast, Doc Ock, Mole Man, etc.

vampireheart 01-29-2012 01:11 PM

good luck getting that beast for a reasonable price, Ill wait until the MU one comes out and then im sure the Showdown one will drop in price

Tiberius 01-29-2012 01:13 PM

Or go even higher because everyone wants the 90's one ;)

http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/...0/PC140243.jpg

SH0CKWAVE 01-29-2012 01:18 PM

i hate the SHS Beast with that stupid growl. no way in hell i'd pay anything over $15 for that figure. the price will drop, invariably.

Tiberius 01-29-2012 01:19 PM

I think using the boiling water trick, you can close his mouth.
