Let me introduce myself!!

Hello everyone, how is it going?Very well i hope;)
Anyway let's get to the point of this thread,me introducing myself.I live in Greece and i have a strong feeling i am the only greek toy collector.Generally in Greece people prefer watching football and playing league of legends than watching the dark knight and playing metal gear solid.I have collected anumber of things through my 14 years of life, from lego to action figures and most recently minimates and hot toys. Now that i'm finishing the third grade of junior high school i thought that minimates were a little childish and blant,so i purchased my hot toys spidey. So my question is:what would you veterans suggest for collecting,i'm thinking sideshow and hot toys and would would you suggest for both collecting and using at stopmotion(I'm thinking play arts kai,figma,neca,d-arts,s.h. figures,if you know more figures in the same style and scale tell me)? Also do you happen to know how much would be the shipping from amiami to greece?Or to Europe?
That's it for now, looking forward to your answers!!!!:)

warmachine6 02-08-2012 06:42 AM

welcome ,
i would collect things that you enjoy collecting or the things that you want to expand on your collection which is what i did for marvel legends / hasbro marvel legends. So up to you really if your thinking of starting a new collection its up to you what you get. :)

Firstly welcome to the Ark!!!! id go with what Jason said, but add GI Joe to that too!!!! At the moment the Joe figures are some of (if not) the best figures on the market right now, nice and small so they are a cinch to store, and before long EVERYTHING will be 1/18th scale,so jump on now good sir!!!!!!!!!!!!

trebleshot 02-08-2012 10:32 AM

Welcome to the Toyark!

And while he may be a bit fanatical about 1/18" scale*, I'd have agree with Proteus about Joes and with him and Jason about MU. Hopefully, you're not a completionist, though. Some of the older MU can cost a pretty penny unless you can find someone on the boards to hook you up.

*not that that is a bad thing, Proteus. :)

Hello .. collect what makes you happy .. thats how I do it

proteus 02-08-2012 11:49 AM

Ahahahahahahaha i love that disclaimer Mr TrebleShot!!! And its no secret i do love me some 1/18th scale toy action!!! But to be fair i was waiting like 20years(give or take a year or two) for the rest of the world to see sense and embrace 1/18th toys........AS THE BEST TOYS EVER!!!

kostisfire 02-09-2012 11:53 AM

Thanks everyone for the suggestions but i prefer bigger, fully articulated figures with a ton of detail so i'll stick with hot toys and sideshow.I emailed hottoys about some problems i had with their spidey. Will the respond to me?If you could buy 1 or 2 hot toys/sideshow figures what would you choose? I'm leaning towards ghost rider, indiana jones, jack sparrow, stormtrooper, boba, cobra commander, cobra viper and i found a pretty good deal for darth maul.Should i get him first?

proteus 02-09-2012 01:11 PM

Well if big and detailed is your thing, you should check out 3A toys WWR line,(theres a thread in the General toys discussion forum here too) might be something you wanna get into, but they are hella expensive especially the 1/6th scale figures they do!!

Honestly man, if u can afford a Hot Toys Spiderman figure and your like 14, your doing better financially then a lot of us lol. I wouldn't be hasty and get rid of all your minimates as they can be valuable, plus you spent the time and $$ collecting them. When I was a kid/teen I had tons of people tell me toys are for kids and to sell them/get rid of them. Sadly I listened to ppl and got rid of some rare/awesome toys for reasons that weren't truely my own. Collect what you want, what you like and what you can afford. Don't feel the need to buy stuff to impress others or make others happy, if you have a job/allowance you're working hard for your $$ so make sure you spend it wisely on items you like. Pick Characters you like, you mentioned metal gear solid, check out the old mcfarlane figures, or the new playarts figures. etc, buy what you want and what you like, I will give the advice of trying to focus your collection, on a specific character, line, wave, or genre to help narrow down your focus and keep you from overspending. When you try to collect them all, you not only will end up poor but crazy trying to acquire them all.

I'm not selling my mates,I just stopped collecting them. I paid 60 for deadpool when he came out.I started collecting hot toys cause I felt that small figures aren't my style anymore. I wasn't as excited for minimates as I was in the beginning.

DogFashionDisco 02-10-2012 12:33 AM

Who are you, and what have you done with my pants?

This happened to alot of us at one point or another, sadly this was my instance too and I lost a ton of Mighty Max sets and other cool toys that are expensive to find again. Collect what you love man, oh an WELCOME TO THE BOARDS!!

trebleshot 02-10-2012 10:09 AM

If I could afford any two Hot Toys figures, it would be War Machine from IM2 and Joker (either Jack or Heath versions).
