Best. Gimmick. Ever.

I saw a commercial the other day for a new Hotwheels line.
Now, I don't remember what the line is called, but the gimmick blew me away.

It's a variation on the paint/plastic that changes colors based on water tempurature, like the G2 Aquaspeeders (I think?).
Only this is light sensative. With a little laser, you can temporarily change the colors of the cars. The sets include tiny little stensels to make temporary tamp decals and the like.
I don't know if this is tempurature based, or photosensative, like glow in the dark plastic.

But either way, this blew my mind given how it could be applied to transformers as the BEST GIMMICK EVAR!!!
Seriously, make the transformers out of this plastic, or decoed with this paint (Whatever it is), and build the lasers into the TF's handheld weapons and bam! Instant battle damage! Real time cause and effect weapons fire!
I mean, how cool would it be to have Megatron and Optimus in a firefight, and taking damage that "heals" itself over time?

Or their vehicles!

GI Joe could benefit with it, too. So could Green Lantern.

If anyone remembers Captain Power toys (to summarize, these were an attempt to combine Lazer Tag with action figure vehicles), I would have much preferred to be able to demonstrate with physical evidence on an enemy ship that I had successfully lased a target than the stupid spring loaded mechanism used in this line.

They worked with the TV show and with each other, but we only had one Captain Power fighter ship so after the show got (immediately) cancelled we would have to stand in front of the mirror to score a direct hit. That sure got lame in a hurry. I remember thinking they did have cool commercials, though -->

Although on further thought, how do you keep kids from hitting each other in the eye with lasers all day long?

gotta admit, thats kinda lame.

I saw that HW commercial last week. While I think the way Mattel is using it is a nice twist on the color-changing cars they've had before, I really like Jetty's idea to expand it to action figures.

I never did like getting my toys wet unless they were designed for it.
