Barbie and The Rockers reunited?
 

Well sort of. But before I get into that first a brief history for those who don't know about Barbie and the Rockers.

When Jem burst onto the scene in 1986 it started making waves and took the top spot for girls toys. Mattel, maker of Barbie needed to counteract Hasbro so Barbie formed the Rockers. After all she's been a teacher, doctor, Pilot. Rocker seemed like the perfect evolution right?

The toy line itself lasted for 3 years and spawned 2 cartoon movies.

Now in celebration of Barbies 50 years, Mattel is releasing a series of 6 Barbies from different periods in the lines history. One of the six is Rocker Barbie.

Was this also the same barbie line that had dolls with metalic colored skin (pink, blue, etc)? My grandmother gave me one of these dolls when I was 4 yrs old and it freaked me out so bad I gave it to a friend.

There might have been some figures in the line that did, but I think they were mostly in rock clothes with instruments.

I saw that Barbie previewed in Previews. While I'm thrilled it actually looks like the original (kicks self for giving away all my Barbies) I'll stay away from the price.

I did like the original line. I think Derek from that line was actually my second male Barbie. A couple even came with cassette tapes but I preferred Jem's music over Barbie and the Rockers.
