I'm loving everything I've seen about this so far, so much so that I might even upgrade to the three pack.

He lost the shoelace after issue 50, shortly before he lost the rest of his "face."

At this time for future tiers I'm hoping for the Modern Spawn to come with the MASKED HEAD and the ARM GAUNTLET. So 3 heads in total.
Maybe for Classic Spawn as a 3rd head a new headsculpt of a masked spawn with screaming open mouth, casted in transparent green and painted. Like this one! |

Yeah, this last round was a great set of updates. It's crazy how much further along the offerings have come since launch, it's really an epic piece now.
Only things that still concern me is articulation. Haven't seen bicep cut, tho it's supposedly coming. Soft material / chest bend is not guaranteed. Upper thigh or equivalent not mentioned, but IMO needed. All the extras though have been perfect. |

Seems like he's fulfilled all the major stuff on our wishlists now with the latest upgrades, so how much is really left to offer if it reaches 2.5 mil (or even 3 mil!) by the end? The extra masked/necro head suggested above sounds great, but beyond that what's left to offer?

Base, stand, cross thingy. Dio inserts. More Necroy stuff. Glow in the dark. More heads.
But yeah, that's just like gravy on gravy for most part. Nothing "needed" to make it acceptable to hardcore toy guys anymore. |

With the roaring success of this, I wonder how long we'll have to wait for his next Kickstarter. If Spawn doesn't ship until Fall, he should launch his next one in the Fall for a Spring 2021 ship date

After much consideration I think I’m going to get two trilogy sets and possibly an additional classic and Modern Spawn. I’m really happy for Todd and all the success this Kickstarter has seen especially considering all the naysayers before it launched. At this point I won’t be surprised if it surpasses 2.5 million.
But with that said I personally hope this isn’t the direction action figure companies start going in, because crowdfunding is really hit and miss. Hasbro barely got Unicron funded and he’s an immensely popular character and most of NECA’s loot crate offerings failed except for the TMNT crate and even that had trouble finding it’s legs. Meanwhile David Silva’s Beast of the Mesozoic line has seen a lot of success. With Kickstarter you just can’t tell what will be a roaring success and what will struggle out of the gate. And I can see a lot of companies using this method on characters they could and should totally release on their own just to squeeze a few extra dollars out of the consumer. NECA’s Alien Club definitely comes to mind. |

It's a lot easier to drop $50 on an amazing Spawn figure than $600 on Unicron. So it's not just about what they are offering, but also how much it will cost us. Personally I think that Unicron shouldn't have cost anymore than $300-400 tops, and I would have bought one without hesitation for that price. $300 for the Haslab cookie monster was laughable right from the start though, so it's no wonder that item failed miserably. The price has to reasonably equal the quality of the piece. Anything excessively higher than that is just greedy on the manufacturer's part. Hasbro is no smalltime startup company, and they should know better and can afford to price items more reasonably, especially since they own Transformers and don't have to pay licensing fees like with Star Wars and Marvel. I dread the ridiculous price of their upcoming Marvel Legends Sentinel for Haslab, especially since we just got a nice one less than 2 years ago. However I'd drop $200+ on a 6" scale GI Joe HISS tank in a heartbeat if offered thru Haslab. Last edited by ShabbyBlue; 04-26-2020 at 12:32 PM.. |

This is also the 30th anniversary of Robocop 2, so it would have been nice to finally get that nemesis cyborg figure, but Randy has stated in the past he doesn't think there's enough demand for it either. A kickstarter could have proved him wrong. A kickstarter could have given us the NECA Ghidorah figure too. ![]() So yeah, NECA is really missing out on the potential of kickstarters or the "produce however many are preordered" model Super 7 is doing for their Ultimates to accurately guage demand rather than gambling and taking a huge loss on risky new licenses like Valorian or other boxofice bombs that have uncertain demand. So the only sword is an unpainted one that comes with the artist proof in the 3 pack?
I've just never liked guns in general. How about a painted sword somewhere? |

The sword gets me. I so wanted the sword for the mortal combat figure but now the second run has a mace.

Yeah I got a notification email that the MK Spawn will have the mace going forward. On one hand I like this because the mace gets more use in gameplay and it feels like a shout-out to Spawn's first toy having the spiked board. On the other hand I was totally fine with him having the sword and had already started planning poses for it.

I don't think crowdfunding has been that big of a miss. If at the end of the day the project is funded then that's what counts even if it is 100% funded of 5000% funded. In terms of it getting funded It all depends if the offering has good value, however, i don't think it's the easiest path to success.
The Spirit Splinter NECA dropped was a popular, however, many like myself didn't care much for the extra junk also many dont trust loot crate. The Gremlin was extremly poor value and the other crates were just bleh. Ultimately, most of us just want figures we dont want a bunch of useless crap like pins and patches. One thing with Spawn is Todd owns the character so can do with it as he pleases. I imagine putting licensed characters on a third party crowdfunding site may be a problem. Hasbro owns transformers so they can do with it as they please. They dont own Star Wars so i guess its not impossible but i imagine it may be much more difficult than we realise. Certainly the addition of extras may not come so easily as the buck stops with the licensor. That said, i couldn't imagine a company would put up an actors likeness rights as a failed campaign would be insulting to the actor and having gone through the effort to obtain the license would be a massive waste of time and effort. Ultimately, i think this crowdfunding method will work well for Todd due to his business model. I think he will see success after success especially if he constantly sets the bar at 100k. It will likely work less well for companies like NECA. I think NECA could use it as a way to deliver more dioramas or larger characters without individual likenesses. I very much doubt NECA could use it to give us characters with actors likenesses tho. |

So are they still going with a pre-posed body or have they made it into a neutral figure? I still freaking hate pre-posed figures with articulation b/c no pose will ever look right except the one it's supposed to have.

No it's not going to be preposed, that was just the initial prototype.

Need a bit more of an idea of some details. So all figures get a gun/rifile and then their unique extra weapon? Hoping we get concept or mock-up of the Necro energy effects. Wonder how the 3 different ones would look like? Think the sword being painted or grey-scale artist proof is a bit of a stumbling part. If theres the news of a sculpted stand (say a cross, dumpster, etc) with "hidden" (a compartment or pegs behind a cross for example for weapons and hand storage) would be good.
Shartimus had an interesting recent interview posted with Todd, fyi. |

Is anyone willing to cough up $40 to help me get Modern Spawn? This whole quarantine has been kicking my ass, financially... (insert nervous smile emoji that I apparently can't insert here..)

Shartimus had an interesting recent interview posted with Todd, fyi. All figures at all levels get chains and all get bonus hands (gripping and fists). I believe all figures now come with 3 sets of hands. Classic $40 = Original rifle and necro effect a Classic $80: = Original rifle, necro effect a, club and signature Modern $40 = Launcher rifle and necro effect a Modern $80: = Launcher rifle, necro effect a, club and signature artist proof $40 = Sword and necro effect a artist proof $80: = Sword, necro effect a, club and signature Three pack: Original rifle, launcher rifle, sword, necro effect a, necro effect b, necro effect c, 3 x clubs, signature Todd has mentioned that there may be more upgrades. It's about to hit 2.2 and looks to be tracking toward 2.6. I imagine one or two more upgrades tops and i imagine they'll be small. I doubt we're getting a large sculpted stand as it will add too much to the production cost. My guess is possibly one more head for each of the three sets i.e. masked head for the modern. |
