I already own a similar hoop that was five bucks from Flying Tiger, so the price of this will really have to be affordable for me to consider it.

Being Hasbro it'll never happen, but I would buy figures of F1 Drivers if they ever made them... which they won't lol.
Would buy a Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen tho for sure. |

^ They might do like a legendary drivers set... which of course Hamilton would qualify for F1 and then a few big named Nascar and Indy drivers.
This is actually neat though... when I saw the brand Starting Lineup I just assumed it meant non-articulated figs, but these look fully articulated. I think Lebron shaved his head finally though. |

O just dont think modern fans will buy.
Perhaps a legendary line will work but most would want complete teams. It's getting the Marvel Legends treatment. 1 xmen and no idea when you can of if you will complete a team. If this was the 90s, and this was Legends then yes please...but modern ball, I just cant see collectors buying these up. |

Starting Lineup was never really that focused on completing teams so much as putting out the big names so I wouldn't expect any different now.
Right now I'm curious how successful this will be, but once they get the NBA off the ground we'll see if they continue with the other major sports leagues. |

that lebron is not accurate at all. he has way too much air
seriously, these look OK but the mcfarlane stuff was light years better, just go back and buy those figures of the guys you want. everyone is asking for nba legends, well mcfarlane basically did all of them so go buy them anytime you want and again they look far superior to these |

Lol the figs look to be well done, but some of those likenesses are hilarious. Ice Trae made me audibly laugh and alternate-Earth Stef drew some chortles as well. Bron looks a little off too; ‘What If’…. Lebron was T-Mac? And The Greek Freak, damn, they just made up a face! Conversely, Joel, Luka, Tatum and Jah look as they should.
So funny and so many questions that I don’t really care about the answers to. Namely, will these figures be scaled within the line itself? As a sports fan, but never a collector of Stating Line-Up, I appreciate Hasbro trying to appeal to the sporting community. However, despite the nation’s current struggles with cult of personality challenges and idol worship, I’m not sure this will move the needle with many collectors outside of children. But, of course, that demo is the target for this line. Sports heroes are the ‘heroes’ that most readily resonate with kids given that children don’t read as much (of anything) as previous generations did. |

What collectors will pay 30 plus per figure for NBA players? Die hard fans would want complete teams and that is who will buy. This is for 80s and 90a kids and looking at NBA ratings, just dont think the market is there or even the demand. Modern player do not have the luster of the older generation. This will be short lived as a Figure line. I can see a Hall of Fame line somewhat working, but for me, if I were to get and Olajuwon, I would like his teammates, and I cannot see Hasbro doing supporting players. Ewing, Larry Johnson, Morning and so on would be nice, but lack of side kicks will hurt my appeal. Last edited by VashTS; 09-22-2022 at 05:16 AM.. |

What I’m saying is that kids are likely to buy these more than anyone else because these are their heroes that they see in action all the time. As children a read less, imagination becomes muted and fanciful heroes pale in comparison. Whereas younger generations of comic fans need movies or shows to introduce them to comic and fantasy characters, athletes are far more accessible to them as idols and their exploits are available on display most days of the week. While I don’t believe this will appeal to many adults outside of a one off here and there, there is a very strong possibility that this effort will be a success with children. I’m not portending doom for the line here; I’m simply stating that I’m not certain how many adult sports fans are going to be investing in this. But I could be wrong, we’ll see. |

The figures look good. However, Hasbro completely missed the boat on the packaging. I get wanting to "save the earth" and all. I'm all for it. But, they have just shut out a huge swath of their nostalgia driven fan base who are going to want these in a bubble with a trading card next to it, just like they used to be. Part of the motivation to restart this line should have been for those 30 and 40 somethings who have such fond memories of these figures. Even if the buyer is younger, many are going to want to keep the figure in the package and maybe display. With windowless package and a figure inside a generically designed box with no throwback to the original packaging, that idea has also been thrown out the window. All of this is of course assuming that that is the final mockup for the packaging.
Except for Lebron, Steph and maybe Giannis, I see the others and future waves shelf warming. Damn, I was really excited for this too. |

I'm definitely down for more sports figures, but age wise I don't think I'm the target market for these. Like I think I only know LeBron lol (I gradually lost interest in the NBA after the 90's).
Would love a "legends" approach going back to various earlier eras, not full teams, just the stars. I think of sports cards more when I think of full team collecting. I'm interested in multiple sports, but personally, would love more hockey figures! |

You’ve misinterpreted what I’ve written, idolatry has not, in any way, abated in the United States. I’m expressing nearly the opposite of what you suggest. The events that have unfolded in America over the last 6 years have demonstrated that this nation struggles mightily with personality cults and demagoguery as actual cults (QAnon) have found purchase within elected office.

I dont see kids buying toys to support their idols. Figures for 30 plus are not for kids nor are they bragging rights. If you want to get into psych, that is different. We know who are more readily manipulated and so do the corporations. We know Hasbro is ESG money crazy. Last edited by VashTS; 09-22-2022 at 06:34 AM.. |

Seeing them in full display, well done on paper. Accurate jerseys, sneakers, player specific features like under sleeves etc. Likenesses look acceptable for this scale and mass production. All depends on execution on the physical things.
All that being said, $50 is a bit harsh, it's not a casual line right now. You have to be really into modern NBA, sports figs in general, or the individual player. I would be down with the 90s greats - Jordan Pippen Rodman, Ewing, Robinson, SHAQ, etc. Kobe too, tho he was back end for me. I can't see flipping 50 bucks on things I am not connected to. |

I tell you what, when it comes to "save the earth", it's working on me! Like most of you, I hated the new packaging when it's first shown. Like most of you, I used to buy 2 of everything that I like: 1 to open and one to keep in box to hang on the wall. The one I open I'd recycle the insert and tray, then flatten the box and keep because the box arts are often pretty awesome too. Now I just buy 1 (buying less is saving the planet too!), I open it, take the figure and accessories out and everything else goes right into the recycle bin, no remorse because the artworks are gone too. It's working on me!
