Pot calling kettle black, etc. but I sit back and look at my personal collection, as well as the flood of super expensive “toys” catering to people who have impulse control issues (face it, that’s why they do these super narrow ordering timeframes)... when it was collectors going into kB toys or tru and competing against 8 yr olds for a $12 toy was one thing. Now it’s $50+ to $200+ on average and production is purposefully reduced to encourage a loot mentality. These are less about being toys and more about being “investment collectibles”.

I dunno, I just see it differently now than when I started collecting years ago. Again, not judging you who are buying this, I’m just seeing the toy collecting community taking a dangerous turn.
Taking.....hell.....we done jumped of that bridge a decade ago. Mattycollector started it.

Remember when 1:6 scale lord of the rings and Star Wars were $50. I do. Now $300 and people can’t wait to spend it.

Totally agree with the 1/6 scale craziness. I remember buying a few of the RAH Marvel figures for $70 and thinking that was insanely expensive. The current $250 to $450+ for 1/6 scale today is nutters.

I disagree that Mattycollector started the crazy collector market. Definitely didn’t help, however. My earliest memory of a toyline that purposefully drew out adults rather than kids was the Playmates Next Generation toys of the late 80’s/early 90’s. I remember watching my father and other men in their 30’s and 40’s digging through shelves and trading with each other. I never saw that with other brands. As a kid, I didn’t know any other kids with Startrek toys... but all the kids had dads collecting them. Playmates even made limited colors to appeal to collectors. Blue Data. Silver Laforge visor... Troy wearing different colored headbands or jumpsuits. It was crazy.

Big difference was they were still a decent Msrp. The insane collectors biome didn’t exist until much, much later. Not sure what the first was. I know for me, some of the first “overpriced” collectibles were the Toybiz Marvel Icons and the first Masterpiece optimus prime. Even those I only spent $30-$60 on.
First $100+ official product I ever bought was the tru MP10 in 2012ish. That “normalized” adult collectibles being expensive for me.

I look at my sideshow lord of the rings set and I’m so happy with them. I can’t imagine spending on one figure what would have gotten me 6 back then. I do remember the starting line up nuts and still with the hot wheels crazies.

I was never into Star Trek, so I don’t know much about that....I do listen to the tales of old from collectors though and it sounds horrid. I remember the power rangers fights. That was insane. I remember I was around 12 or so and I talked to the guys that ran the toy department at Hills all the time and always brought my wizard and toy fair books to show them the new stuff coming out- anyway I remember they just threw boxes of power rangers on the ground and just ran away. The mobs were awful. I was heavily into the Batman and toybiz marvel then.

I think the first time I really started plunking down heavy cash was at Matty. With shipping and tax even $20 figures were around $35 for me. Motuc seemed to really push what Msrp could do. Then the castle and vehicles and then Super7 and so on.

I remember when hasbro took over marvel and the 6 inch figures went from $7.99 to $9.99 then $12.99 almost over night. Then they did the jump to $14.99 and once legends returned they just went for the $19.99 as quick as they could.

I still think these low production runs are the top reason for price. I mean look at the 80s some figures were produced in the millions. Most retail lines are 50,000-100,000 at least. We are living through I believe the last great toy era. These things are destined to become like trains, tin space toys and antiques-dead men’s toys. Worth a fortune but nobody wants them.

At the end of the day I don’t care if my collection is worth a million or worthless. My collection is memories. Mermories of family, friends, childhood, and a simpler time. I can go to my toy room with my family or alone and for a little while, what happens outside doesn’t matter. And that is priceless.

I was thinking the same thing. Time for me to learn how to work with styrene sheets. For $500 it's a simplistic design. I highly doubt it will have a bunch of features. What you see is what you get most likely. I'm sure the tooling is expensive. It is however out of my pricerange.
This marks a new height in the era of toy collecting...

I am closer to pulling the trigger, I’m just deciding where to purchase this from. I liked not having to scramble for snake mountain, having it arrive already paid for a year in advance felt so satisfying.

Anybody know if Super7 as said how sales are going on this?

That Thundertank is dope, but too much for me, I can't judge tho, I dropped almost that on the Haslab Razor Crest that we patiently wait for this year. Unlimited funds and space and I'd grab the Thundertank as well.

It’s done. Watching the video and the pixel Dan video really made up my mind. Those damn treads better not be freaking rubber.

Now, I have a year to figure out where it’s going.

Even with that pricetag, having it go up for sale around the time people got their stimulus money was quite the fortunate chain of events on their part. If they do not sell enough now... Then the fanbase for Thundercats is smaller than we think.

For multiple reasons, I have decided to pass on it. I know I'm going to be kicking my own arse over it later.

Seems to me like if they have to post something like "Final days! Get it now while you still can!" then they probably priced it too high. I'm out for that exact reason.

Comedian, I like where you're at.

Holy crap this thing is a work of art!

Packed really well (Haslab could take some notes). Quality is outstanding - hefty, rigid plastic that looks like it could stand up to some real play. I'm talking eighties-era heavy duty. It actually feels beefier than that Mobile Command Center behind it. I wouldn't drop test it though because it might crack a tile. Everything moves freely (Small word of warning, the extendable barrel in the nose cannon needs to be fully telescoped back into place or it will slide forward and block the hatch. It's no problem as you can reach it inside the jaw, but don't force the hatch if it isn't opening).

Tracks roll, but they're pretty stiff. Seems like they slide on most surfaces even with the mass of the tank on them. That being said, I'm ok with it because I think it will help them not get as saggy over time. Be sure to "exercise" the tracks though to keep them from getting permanently deformed around the bogeys.

Can't wait to finish building my display around it. I can finally let my Mattycollector Thundercats out of the bag (box)!

Thought this thread was bumped because of the the tank being marked down to $400 for a day over on BBTS.

Edit:nevermind missed the last part of the post.
