Hey all,
I came here to get some advice. I collected toys from the mid-90's to around 2010 (15 years). I amassed a HUGE collection of new toys as well as old classic toys that I was snatching up on Ebay (when Ebay was the rage). I stopped collecting around 2010 because the price of new toys had skyrocketed and I just did not have the money to blow anymore. Around 2012, I became the caregiver for aging father, and upon moving in with him, my toy collection was put in large boxes and put into a climate-controlled, self-storage facility. It stayed in that self-storage facility for 13 years, and this past year I moved it to another storage facility because the rent had gone up over $300 a month. The new facility was only charging me $65 a month, and now just 3 months later they have jacked my rent up to $112 a month. I'm sick of this. I have no place where I am living to keep this massive collection, so I'd like to start selling it, but am not sure what the best and most profitable way to do that would be. I have toys that are MIB/MIP and loose...all kinds of stuff...alot of monster stuff, but I've also got everything but the kitchen sink as well. So, if you had a HUGE collection and were thinking of selling it, to actually make some money back, where would you begin? I've thought of Ebay, but I don't know how much of a hassle that will be, as I've never sold anything on Ebay. I have thought though at least with Ebay I can post the toy for what I paid for it, put it up as an "auction" and just see what people will to pay. I've thought of toy shows, but I don't feel like lugging my stuff all over and have people trying to talk my prices down. Over the years while collecting, I did keep a spreadsheet of all my purchases, so I do know how much I paid for brand new toys and stuff off Ebay. So yeah, I have a HUGE spreadsheet of all my toys. I have perused Ebay over the years and I have some toys that folks are paying alot of money for now, so I know I have stuff in there that collectors will want. And I kept very good care of my collection. I can even post pics of it, before I stored it away, if folks are curious. So, any advice for a guy that wants to offload his toys? I don't have the toy bug anymore, and am tired of paying self-storage fees. I need to get rid of this stuff...maybe keep a couple pieces that are special to me and that's it. |
