Oh snap, no one told me that Furbacca and Geoffrey the Giraffe would be there! Plus I can't wait to get my hands on that Jakks Pacific Exclusive Star Wars Themed flashight, so the kids can find their way back to the car after midnight.

At least the young kids will get kick out of this...unless they enjoy cool things. The cookies and ice cream do sound good though.

I have to admit, I'm having a hard time getting excited for this. I'm just not sure how much collector-focused 3 3/4-inch scale product there's really going to be at this point that I would be interested in (TBS-quality, TVC-quality, etc.). I'm just really afraid it's going to be a lot of random Star Wars branded stuff that I'm not going to be interested in at all. Even the kids aren't excited about it.

Anybody know anything that might make it worth going to?

That's the thing, they aren't saying what will be available, so its hard to get excited. It's assumed that the leaked 6" prototype figures (Kylo Ren, Finn, Rey [w/ BB-8?], Chewbacca) and the TIE will be there, as well as some vague 3 3/4" offerings of unknown quality. There is still a month, surely there will be some more details regarding what will be available by September 4th. If not officially, then through more leaks. And the retailers, (TRU, Wal-Mart, Target) will be trying to entice people away from the other stores with exclusives and offers/sales. That will be another source of product information.

Another thought... since we don't even know what will be released, this has got to be angering the etailers like BBTS who would normally be taking preorders right now. If they can't take orders until the stuff is released in stores, their competitive edge is gone.

In fairness, I think you are approaching two vastly different markets. Further, given the supposed support from the likes of Walmart and TRU, Hasbro is assuredly making WAY more money supporting feature aisles and pallet trains at those venues than they would with whatever sales BBTS or EE could provide.
This show of force is more for the casual collector and casual consumer, the same people that made such a freak show of stuff like the Episode I midnight event where people fought over figures that would be available for MONTHS.

And if things go as with Transformers 4, the online guys aren't going to see much of an immediate need for the product to begin with: stores will be SO HEAVILY stocked for wave 1, few are going to bother with online guys at all.

And if TFA becomes a sellout level success (doubtful), THEN I could see the online guys picking up some slack, but that is months away from being a consideration.

That's the point... once people see that the toys are easy to get in stores, few will bother buying them online. They have an opportunity now to sell a large amount of preorders, while hype and anticipation is building and people are apprehensive about being able to get the items they want. It will be easier to sell online before people see how prevalent items end up being in stores, not after. This is why I made the point that they are probably not happy right now. And I don't think there is anything casual about a consumer who is going out to a midnight toy release.
