Right now I'm re-reading Spider-Man: Birth Of Venom. I recently finished DC vs. Marvel.

Both are great stories. Birth Of Venom is a good synopsis of the black costume days of Spider Man.

I like that Scarlet Spider dialogue with Joker in DC vs. Marvel. Also of note is Ben Reilly (aka Peter Parker) working with Clark Kent.

Man, that was my big gripe with both Fear Itself AND Seige- a bunch of bullshit hype and prelude and then...ZERO big fight at the end!
I expect this from Matt "I ruined Iron Man" Fracton but damn, this was bad.

Of course, Journey Into Mystery was the shining light through all of this- it's Marvel's very best book!

Red She Hulk is keeping the sword she used. She'll be using it while she's appearing in the new Defenders title.

Started reading volume 2 of Preacher... My friend recommended it to me ages ago, seeing as we're reading The Boys too (Gotta catch up with that some time...) A brilliantly dark book, I recommend it to anyone who's enjoying Ennis' other works.

Also read Transformers Ongonig #30 and Justice League #3... Really disappointing on both counts. TF's epic storyline really fizzled out at the end, there was lots of info dumping and disappointing scenes. And the revamped JL just seems really juvenile to me, too much of the heroes batting back a thousand enemies at once while exchanging witty banter.

I just finished three "Marvel Classics" collections of the X-Men- from the birth of the "New X-Men" and the death of Thunderbird through the death of Phionex...some great stuff in there...and some seriously cringeworthy stuff too: like Professor X being able to "mentally deactivate" the nuclear missile launch Count Nefaria started...while thte Professor was back in Westchester....or Storm being able to use her powers to "re-arrange the molecules in my costume to make any article of clothing I choose".
WTF?!?
Or Banshee's family owning a Scotish castle that's home to...leprechauns.
Really. They went there.

(facepalm)

I also just finished the bit in the Busiek/Perez run on Avengers with the Avengers/Thunderbolts crossover against Count Nefaria- really great classic comic fun!

Iron Man 's a turd under Fracton (very sad to say).
Pick up the new Punisher title! It's awesome and if you've never been a fan of Frank, this wil make you one!
Same with the new Daredevil title!

Journey Into Mystery is the best written title out there...but GOD DAMNIT!- they let that shithead Portacio draw it now!
His art sucks like a cheap hooker hyperventilting in an open airlock on the edge of a black hole.
Look! Everyone's asian!

GRRR!

Only two Marvel titles I'm reading from my pull list Ultimate Spider-man (honestly pretty boring but getting a bit more interesting as of #4) and Ultimate X-Men (which I'm honestly enjoying).

Otherwise everything else is DC and etc.

I actually haven't read a new comic in a long time...been focusing mainly on novels right now. I was reading the third part in Stephen King's Dark Tower Series, The Wastelands, but it was boring me to death, so I put it down. Probably gonna pick up some trade paperbacks with what money I get for christmas(X Force, Complete Under The Hood, Battle for the cowl, V for Vendetta, Batman Cacophony etc)

There's no payofff- Tony runs, feels guilty, hides, wipes his brain, feels guilty, loses EVERY FIGHT to super losers like Doc Ock and generally acts defeated in every possible way.

Seriously, WTF?!?!? I own issues 1-300 and the Kanufs run and now the Fracton run and I'll tell you as someone that's been an Iron Man fan for 25 years, Fracton has no idea who Tony Stark is.

And far less idea who James Rhodes is!
Hot on the heels of Greg Pak's awesome War Machine series, where Jim was on one long suicide run to do what's right and bring justice to untouchable bastards and even outsmarted Norman Osborn...Fracton has Rhodey afraid to go out in the War Machine armor and needing a pep talk from Tony?!?

NO. just...no.

These characters are unrecognizable from every one of their prior appearances ever.

Hell, in Avengers, Iron Man is depicted very well- Bendis has a great handle on the character and how he interacts with others- see the issues with the Illumaniti and you'll say "that's Iron Man! Someone that could walk awy from being GOD if it was the right thing....but Fracton's depiction is anemic. It's like Fractn decided to make an exact oposite of everything "Tony" that Robery Downey Jr. brings to the movie depiction.

The art does not help either- Larocca is great for the armor shots but his useing photo reference of that guy from Lost for Tony is pretty old.
No clue who he referenced for his Rhodey- maybe he Googled "candyass" and used whatever popped up. He reuses this sorta confused look for Tony so often that it reads like he has brain damage from the last storyline. Never does he look angey...or even confident, in any way.

Then there's the story wherein we get ENTIRE ISSUES of Tony fundraising, Powerpoint presentation meetings, the secret lives of Tony's new employees...jesus.

BUT WORST OF ALL: they introduce an all-new armor and for the first time in Iron Man's history, they dont explain why it's supposedly better than the last suit- it's not that it's a mystery Fracton is waiting to reveal- according to interviews, he has not decided what all it can do yet.

Which is like 50's Batman having a can of Bat Shark Repellant only in Tony's case, in reverse- the suit seems to suck badly- losers that he'd laugh off in armor from a deacde ago are now kicking his ass for issues on end.
Detroit Steel? really? REALLY?!?! What is that joke compared to say, Firepower?

Nothing.

I'd bet real money that fracton never read any of those issues anyway- not if he's got Doc Ock beating Tony...at anything.

So if I want Iron Man, Bendis is my only hope....for what that's worth these days.

yeah, not reading comics pre - disassembled, my perception of these characters are pretty one sided. New Avengers #1 back in '04 is what got me into comics full time. The fact that some books dont keep up with current stuff(both cap books) does kinda bother me. Im lovin each issue of childrens cruisade and its horrible its taking so long to finish. I dont like the talking heads stuff in the bendis books either. waste.of.pages...
