Jawesome. Wave two looks great. Would have been cool if they teased future waves
|
Finally Catra in Origins.
TMNT going Snake-Men? Thought that mutant Ninjor was Draego-Man. Still not sure. Modulok at last. And Rio Blast. Masterverse, how about some unmade characters in that format? At least one a wave? I don't collect Masterverse, but just saying. (In 2026 they'll go SNAKE-MEN, too!) |
Wow, that Masterverse Evil-Lyn looks stunning!
|
Evil-Lyn and Snake Teela look f*#$ing incredible!!! Hasbro, take note you schmucks!
Wow, I may have to double-dip on both, they look so good. I really hope that the Hasbro buying Mattel rumors are false--Hasbro sucks so bad, that would literally kill me. |
Wow honestly I've tried to not pay attention to those Masterverse figures but these are incredible, especially for the price point. I wasn't very impressed with the earlier Netflix ones but its night and day in comparison. I at least need that Mer-man and Goddess.

Mattel was like this is what you voted on:

Looking forward to Thundercats showing up in the Origins line next year.

Man…the feedback on the snakemen lair is not good. I’m not sure it will fund. It’s cool but not what was shown and just too big. I was expecting the size of snake mountain or castle grayskull. There is no nostalgia for this….and that’s an issue when selling to a bunch off 40-60 year olds.
The thundercats is interesting but I’m hoping for thundercats done in the origins style not some mash up. I’m honestly getting burned out on motu. Eternia was kind of the “white whale”. So now what? Finish the vintage figures and I think I can end happy. |

If Mattel got the Thundercats license back and started making Motu Origins Cartoon Collection style Thundercats that would be awesome. Super7's Thundercats are way too expensive for the average person. Cats Lair should be a readily available playset, not some overpriced crowd fund. In the poll I voted for Attack-Trac, ergo I have zero responsibility for the Snake Lair winning and not being popular, Now that I think about it, did the Snake Lair actually win or did the Mattel execs give it a false win because they think the oversaturated snake stuff will sell...
|
@ Sean C LOL, that sums it up pretty perfectly.
I don't think the Snake Lair wins if this was shown versus the concept art. I voted for the Attak Trac and now wish that or the Doom Tower would've won. The only reason I didn't vote for the Fright Zone is I don't think it should be a crowdfunded piece and should be available for everyone. Someone at Mattel really lovesssss the Snake Men. I figured it had a good chance to win regardless of the actual results due to the number of related figures released and previous teaser art. The unreleased and previously unmentioned snake vehicle was probably added to justify upping the price. I was wondering how this thing would be more than $200ish for a crowdfund, now I know. Can't trust Mattel again with just a mockup being shown. I'm guessing $300-$400. |
I know most people won't care very much, but has there been any word at all on MotU Mega Construx / Blox?

Undead Lady Slither isn't a huge draw for an early backer bonus for Snake Lair. If you missed regular Lady Slither (and don't want to support resellers), you'll still be lacking.
But they'll try to stick some of those teased Snake Men from minicomics and package art as stretch goals. And then never make them if they don't get to those goals (like Keclar). I think with Origins, it's getting frustrating for some of us. The Preternia heroes have yet to be made. They've still got, I dunno, a dozen teased Snake Men and other package art characters and of course, the remaining vintage toy line characters, which they started off decently getting to in 2024, only to drop off entirely in the second half of the year. If you missed cartoon Two-Bad, you'll be probably be waiting over a year for vintage toy style version. Them doing all the vintage vehicles is just not going to happen, not at one a year. |
After the vote I guessed it would have electronics, more detailed paint, accessories, MC Lady Slither in different colors, & a two or three pack of generic Snake Men as additions or bonus perks to up the price. Didn't think they'd expand it and add a vehicle. I like the idea of the vehicle, but not the execution I've seen so far. Either way I'm not backing it. I decided I don't want or have room for the Snake Men and this Lair at the expected price. I was interested at a smaller size closer to the other playsets.
Origins has definitely gotten frustrating in a few ways. Only releasing the Fan Favorite vintage figures at retail while stringing out the remaining vintage characters as Mattel Creations exclusives at higher prices and in limited quantities while they release other lines at retail using Origins tooling like WWE Superstars, TMNT, Cartoon, & the upcoming ThunderCats line. Missing a few Playsets still. Also the glut of Snake Men and vehicles you already mentioned. I'm hoping they make the Giants at some point. |
I was looking forward to the Snake Lair based on the mock-up, but after seeing the reveal I think I’m gonna pass on it. It’s just too big, and it’s not a particularly interesting design. I was planning to buy all of the MoTU playsets, but maybe not anymore.

Soooo Mattel recently setup a new survey asking about the Snake Lair:
The $550 Eternia ended with 9,291 total backers and needed at least $2.75 Million to go into production. At $300 this would need 9,166 backers just to hit that, never mind any Unlocks. I don't think they'd produce a MOTU Origins crowdfund under $2 Million, equaling 6,666 units to fund. This makes Unlocks using Eternia as a baseline around 10,500 and 13,000. How many Backers would this reach at $300? |
They change it, people who liked the SDCC reveal will be mad, blame other fans. Crowdfund (or whatever) might be postponed, souring the whole thing.
They go forward with it as shown, many people who wanted the version they voted on will pass. Maybe it gets funded, but maybe it doesn't make all the goals, and set's supporters will be mad at the voters who became non-backers. Mattel set themselves up for problems with this one. |
Mattel knocking it out the park happy Street Sharks are back
