Seriously the dude just needs to calm the f**k down. Yes Ultimate is certainly no Spectacular but all that petty shit's just not necessary. Don't watch it and put your energy to something more productive.

I don't have a problem with this show at all. It's perfect for me & my nephew to watch together. He loves him some Spidey! Seems like people have a problem with a cartoon being aimed towards children? lol lighten up!
I do see some valid points tho. It's def not great, but it is what it is. A shitty Spidey show is better than no Spidey show. Last edited by DHeezy81; 06-19-2012 at 03:47 PM.. |

@Dheezy,
No, no one here has an issue with a cartoon aimed for children. But there's a difference between aiming a cartoon at children, and insulting them. Teen Titans was a show ment for chilren. It was smartly written, funny... had a lot of extreme slapstic, and some pretty heavy dramatic moments that built character. It had characters that kids and adults alike could relate to, as the Titans went through basically the same problems everyone faces. And it managed to keep the characters true to form (As opposed to USM which none of the characters really act in character) USM tries to be Marvel's Teen Titans, but fails spectacularly at it, in just about every single way.

I do see some valid points tho. It's def not great, but it is what it is. A shitty Spidey show is better than no Spidey show. I would go so far as to say much of their kid audience was influenced by their parent(s) who are also Spidey fans to watch the show so they could enjoy the family activity together. So yeah, I personally take offense as a long time fan that Loeb/Quesada basically said they could care less about what adult fans think by saying its for the kids. Pixar's films have been so successful because they not only made their movies with kids in mind, but also kept in mind and respected the parents who would have to take those kids to the theaters and not force them to watch 110 minutes of crap on a big screen. They made something kids and adults could both enjoy. Seeing as how Pixar is owned by Disney, I expected Marvel to maintain that philosophy. Guess my expectations are unreasonable.

The show is decent at times I get bored. I really enjoyed Spectacular Spiderman more though. Just Peter's character in the show made me care about his personallity. This Peter is just kind of annoying to me. Not saying its a bad show just needs to develop more. I still think Spectacular Spiderman was better.

Just saw it, wasn't too bad, was funny actually but every time they put up the censor than it just killed it! Great artwork on Sabretooth, but what's up with Wolverine...

What censor?
I thought the Wolverine ep was okay. It seemed like the writers of this ep don't like Wolvie, and that's okay in my book.

I do see some valid points tho. It's def not great, but it is what it is. A shitty Spidey show is better than no Spidey show. 'We couldn't be bothered to write a decent script, direct the narrative properly, avoid plotholes etc because you know, it's for kids.' Effectively saying that all kids are stupid, and don't care if something is rubbish because as long as it has a silly cartoon idiot running around in bright colours they'll be entertained. Let's just assume kids are stupid and not try to improve their mindset with a decent product. /rant. I tried watching USM again, still did not like it. Love the animation and fight scenes though. I hope they've taken the criticisms on board and make some directional changes in series two, similar to what happened with the Iron Man and Fantastic Four cartoons of the 90s. |

They already think they have an absolutely perfect product.

While entirely possible, it doesn't seem likely that they would mention anything negative in a press statement. They wouldn't turn to an audience and say 'Oh yeah, this show we've invested a lot of time and money into is getting mixed to poor reactions from vocal members of the online community'. They will want to sugar coat it, twisting viewing figures and making their own mind up as to what the results mean. If they may only look at the numbers for the show, which is only doing better then Avengers EMH because it has a regular time slot on the Disney Channel. It would be interesting to see the viewing figures for each successive episode of USM to see if people have been switching off, in which case a change of direction would be needed. Also, if we are to believe Jeph Loeb's facebook page was taken down due to an overwhelming amount of criticism due to the show I think that is one major factor the studio would consider.

To touch on something you said (Reguarding the differences between USM and Avengers ratings)...
It also doesn't help that Avengers has absolutely no support. Disney and Marvel's promotion machine is focused exclusively on USM. The only time Avengers comes up in a Disney XD commercial is if they're running a commercial for the Marvel Universe block. And they dedicate more time to talking about Joe Quesada drawing than showing Avengers clips.

I also liked that most of the episode was focused on Peter and Logan (star and guest star). Aside from some chibi flashback moments, the rest of Team Spidey never even appeared in costume for this episode. Speaking of, apparently Fury didn't think Mesmero warranted the full team's response. And considering he was only using his powers to commit armed robbery (rather low standard for an evil mutant), I can see why. At Sabretooth was doing what he always does: trying to kill Wolverine and not caring who or what gets in his way. Not an actual censor bar. Exodus is talking about the "We are experiencing technical difficulties" sign that appeared any time Peter or Logan accidentally hurt themselves. The first time they did it, I thought it was funny. Every other time after that, it got less and less funny. At one point it even made me irritated because it interrupted the fight and destroyed the pacing they had built up to that point. Quote:

I'm not trying to blindly defend this. Is it on par with Avengers EMH? Hell no! But to have such strong feelings towards a cartoon is a bit ridiculous. You can't please everyone. Bottom line for me is. My nephew enjoys it and now his face lights up anytime he sees anything Spider-Man. |

I thought there were some genuinely funny moments in that episode and for a couple of scenes, I actually laughed out loud. The usage of the cut-away/inner monologue moments were scaled back a little and used more appropriately (even being self-referenced by Logan at one point).

After re-reading his bio on Marvel Wiki, it seems that being a con artist is about all he does do with his powers when not under the control/influence of someone else. He's practically the Marvel equivalent of CBS's Mentalist (before Patrick went straight).

Ultimate Spider-Man..............is......is growing on us! Spider-Man talking to the camera, the cut aways and "special" effects are still stupid in our opinion. But we're starting to like it! ![]() |

If you're using television to "improve your child's mindset" You've already failed as a parent. Do kids really give two shits about pacing, plot holes, & character development? I don't think and child has a clue wtf any of those are. My nephew is 14 months old. Turn on USM and he's glued to the tv for that half hour all you hear are oooooh's and aaaaah's. It is colorful, cute, well animated, & isn't too serious. I'd say it's a great way to introduce children to superheros.
Your nephew is 14 months old? Well then of course he's not going to care about pacing and character development, he's 14 months old!! What about the hundreds of other kids ranging from different age ranges who want to watch something a bit more interesting then bright colours jumping around!! The sort of children that appreciate Batman TAS, Spectacular Spider-man and Young Justice? The demographic for a cartoon like this is not 14 months old, it's significantly wider then that! The characters, the language, the action etc is more geared towards children 5-10. And your comments have pretty much back backed up my point entirely: That this cartoon is fine for children under the age of 2, because children under the age of 2 don't care about quality. 'Cute and colourful' really? Didn't we have Super Hero squad for that? My point was made because businesses are happy to use 'it's for kids' as an excuse for shit products, and I think that's unfair because they are basically saying that kids don't appreciate or deserve quality products. And I repeat, when I say kids I do not solely mean under twos, I mean children of all ages. You can't deny that the quality of television has dumbed down, and since children prefer to sit in front of the television then do their homework what's wrong with having a cartoon which at least has a decent story? I'm not saying it has to be educational, just written well! And as for having strong feelings for this, can you blame us? We get given something fantastic in the form of television and it's taken away from us, and replaced with an inferior product. Excuse me for wanting something with a bit more quality. Of course you can't please everyone, but when shows like Avengers EMH and Teen Titans have got it so right and have more fans then naysayers it makes you wonder what was going through the minds of the people who made USM. Spider-man has a fanbase ranging from children as young as your nephew to as old as my dad who is in his 60s. When you're creating something like this it has the potential to draw in viewers from all ages if it gets the direction right, eg Spectacular Spider-man. If it neglects a significant portion of the fanbase, then that portion will become vocal. That is the nature of the internet. If you enjoy it, good for you, I wish I could. I'm glad that your nephew enjoys it, and hopefully because of this show he'll become a Marvel fan and appreciate everything else the franchise has to offer ![]() Last edited by Alienweirdo; 07-05-2012 at 07:19 AM.. |
